Dying Eggs

As most of you have noticed I’ve not written a whole lot of personal blogs lately.
I’ve been in so much pain that it’s hard to concentrate at times. So I’ve been doing a lot of book and movie reviews.

There was no school today for Easter break and I made the executive decision that it was a sleep in and wear your pj’s all day sorta day.  I think Emma was the only one who got dressed and she just threw on a shirt and a pair of sweats.

Yesterday was Easter so we colored some boiled eggs around 9:00pm……I was in so much pain yesterday that every movement was an effort.  But that pain thing is for another blog.

P1020016

Sophie checking on her egg. Some colors took a bit longer to take then other colors.

P1020017

Sarah checking on her egg. She had a blast. So did Sophie and I enjoyed watching them dye their eggs. We did 11 eggs in all. We used a new kit that all we had to do is use 5ozs of warm water and the dye tablet, plus the kit came with glitter!!!! We are huge glitter fans in the house so of course it was a must get kit. Smile

Emma didn’t want to dye eggs but she did boil them for me. I guess being almost 14 makes ya to old for such things. Smile with tongue out

P1020022

The final product. Most of the eggs were glittered. I think the last two were the only ones that didn’t get any glitter.

You can’t really see how sparkly and pretty they are from the pic but they were beautiful.

Defending Jacob

11367726

I recently finished reading this. I was pleasantly surprised with it. It was a book I hadn’t ordered, but my book club sent it to me.  Kinda hard to decline your featured book selection  when your in the hospital LOL.
Something about the book cover just drew me in. Yes I have judged my books by their covers. Nyah-Nyah

As you can probably tell by the name of the book it’s a murder mystery.  It makes you think how far would you go to defend your child? One parent whole heartedly believes without a doubt he’s innocent. The other parent not so much.   Can you imagine the strain on your marriage let alone your life?
This book walks you through the lives of this family, their ups and down. Imagine preparing for a murder trial for your 14yr old son. Going from being respected people in the community to social outcasts.
I wouldn’t say the book is intense but it is a good read so I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Word of the Day

I subscribe to Word of the Day, I feel that we are never to old to stop learning. Most of the words I know, other times the words are so odd I’m like uhhh, yeah, ok….whatever.
Then there are times they are so unusual that make me giggle. Rolling on the floor laughing Today is one of those days.

Today’s word of the day is “cockalorum”. Call me juvenile but I bust out laughing when I read it. Smile with tongue out

Now for those of you who don’t know what it means here is the copy and paste of the definition.

cockalorumAudio Pronunciation\kah-kuh-LOR-um\

DEFINITION

noun

1:

a boastful and self-important person

2 :

boastful talk

EXAMPLES

No one believed Marty's cockalorum about being an expert pool player, and as it turned out, he was indeed just as bad as the rest of us.

"No one is saying Little Floyd is a conniving little cockalorum, but … he would very much like to add another belt to his legacy. It is with much certainty, on his part, that he will." — From an article by Paul Strauss on EastsideBoxing.com, August 6, 2011

If you click on the little speaker thing it will take you to a page where you can hear it pronounced.

Anyway…I thought the word was funny. *shrugs* I have a warped sense of humor though.

Enjoy your day/night everyone!

19 Kids and Counting

I’m not sure how a lot of you feel about the show 19 Kids and Counting but I personally enjoy it.  I certainly don’t have their belief system, but you have to give them props for  the way their children are being raised and they are not mooching off the state, nor were they prior to their show.

Would I have 19 kids? No, even with my love for children.  I’m not going to judge them because they do. Nor did I judge them when they announced they were pregnant with number 20.  After all they went through when number 19 came along, even I was a little shocked number 20 was coming along.

If you haven’t seen the show it’s on TLC and it chronicles their day to day life.  Chaos and all. They even interview the children and hearing them and their opinions are heartwarming.

When I heard that the Duggers lost their baby in the 18th week my heart bled for them. So many were negative about it.  They’ve obviously never lost a child. With that being said I never thought they would show Michelle’s pregnancy or loss in the new season.
To my complete surprise they did cover her pregnancy no more then in her other pregnancies during the shows time. I was surprised to see the season finale showed the loss of their child.  Seeing Michelle’s and Jim Bob’s face when they found out at a much anticipated ultrasound there was no heartbeat.  Watching the children cry at the loss of a sibling, while their parents told them. It broke my heart.   The Memorial service and the burial. Was so heart wrenching.
It doesn’t matter if it’s your only child that passes or your 20th. It’s pain all the same.  It’s not something you “just get over” For all you haters out there, try and think in their shoes for just one moment. How would YOU feel?

Not everyone has the same belief system and that’s ok. Some don’t want any children while others may only want a small family or like me, my dream was to always have 6.
The Duggers believe that each child is a blessing and have chosen their path.

After watching the episode with Brian we discussed it and thought it would be a good idea to have Emma and Sophie watch it. To show them the value of life. That it’s not always about them.  Yes they were both in tears even if Sophie tried to hide it. But they both got the lesson we had hoped they would get.

I leave all of you with this. Don’t take the ones you love for granted, try and not judge others for the way they believe. If you have children enjoy each moment with them because they grow so quickly and before you know it they are grown and moved out of the house.

Marilyn

70202150

Anyone that knows me knows that I love anything and everything Marilyn.  So when I heard they had made a movie about her I just HAD to see it.  Unfortunately due to a illness and not enough money I wasn’t able to see it at the theater.  I used the word unfortunately when it should have been fortunately. I’m so glad I didn’t pay movie theater prices to see it and waited to see it when it came out on Netflix.
Now don’t get me wrong it wasn’t an awful movie and I knew in advance it wasn’t going to be showing her in the best of lights. I think in a nutshell it was the actress who portrayed her that ruined it for me.  Michelle Williams played the part of Marilyn and in my opinion did a crappy job at it. She didn’t look enough like her, she didn’t have her breathy voice down. I could go on and on why I thought she wasn’t a good choice for the part.

With all that being said, if you have nothing else to do on a rainy day or late at night, it IS worth a watch. Just don’t expect to much from it.  I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Lone Wolf

151360171

I recently finished reading Jodi Picoult’s newest book “Lone Wolf”. In all honesty I picked it up without reading what it was about, merely because I’m a fan of her work.

As I got into the book I realized that it wasn’t anywhere near what I thought it was about. None the less Jodi didn’t disappoint me. This book took a hold of you and took you deep into  several peoples lives. Gave you a deeper understanding of the wolf and their pack.

Shows one man’s journey of walking between man and wolf. There are some hard lessons to be learned here and it leaves you thinking with what would you have done?

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.  While it enticed me and I read it quickly I just didn’t feel like it was a 5 star book.
For those of you that are local this book is available at the Olin Library and I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.

To The Moon And Back

SharonBlinX_TOTHEMOON_092607-18

The Girls and I always say I love you to the moon and back. So tonight I told Sarah I love you to the moon and back. She tells me the same thing. So I tell her I love her infinity. She again tells me the same thing. I said I love you always. She again repeats it. Finally I say I love everything about you. She goes ok mom seriously just stop it. Stop saying stuff.

I’m not feeling the love tonight. Winking smile

Emma and I sat and talked about the things I did as a teenager for about two hours. She wanted to hear more and more. I told her, “do you see why I say you cant’ get away with anything? I’ve been there done that” LOL

Then we started listening to some old school music. Some old Motley Crue, Joan Jett, Twisted Sister. Ahhhh them were the days.  So here I’m jamming and Emma said “Mom I want to show you a song.” She picks a friggin country song after all that good rock. Dierks Bentley’s “Home” LOL

I uploaded a video of Sarah dancing on Facebook tonight. LOL She has no rhythm poor girl. She definitely dances like a white girl. She’s only 4 so hopefully there will be a bit of hope for her in the future. Dance classes maybe? Winking smile

Sarah just came up to me and said “MOM, Guess just stepped on my foot” I told her Guess was a dog and didn’t mean to. She said all upset but Guess didn’t say sorry. So I had to explain to her that Guess is a dog and doesn’t know how to say sorry and that she honestly didn’t mean to step on her foot.  She wasn’t to happy about it but she seemed to accept it.

So now that I’ve rambled a bit about everything I’ll leave you with this.

Never EVER take Ex-lax and a sleeping pill at the same time.

Who Loves Me?

419720_3462015114899_1406591004_3351669_1297315473_n

About once a day I’ll raise my arms in the air and shout out “Who loves me?” Usually our dog Guess, and two of my kids, Sophie and Sarah will come running over for a hug.

A few days ago I did my normal shout out of “who loves me?” Both Sophie and Sarah were to busy watching tv to pay any attention to me. However, Guess (my dog) and Zoey (my cat) both came running over to me.  I got a nice giggle from it.
I ran across the above graphic on facebook and it made me think of that straight away. I knew I just had to share it with all of you. Smile

I of course pretended to pout and said to both Sophie and Sarah, I see how you are. You don’t love me anymore. They ran over to me and gave me a big ole hug right away. LOL Smile

I love my kids!!!!

The Vow

the-vow-movie-poster

I recently read the book “The Vow”. It’s based on actual events.  After just 10 days of marriage they are in a horrific car accident.  Krickitt (the wife) had a horrific head injury. They weren’t even sure she would make it.

I first became aware of the book because they made it into a movie. I’m the type of person that likes to read the book before seeing the movie. Which usually is a mistake because the book and the movie are almost never the same and I just get pissed.  LOL I know weird…..anyway…it really gives you a good message of marriage and love.  While marriage and love are not perfect with faith no matter what your faith is, it can over come all obstacles.

After I finished the book I tossed it to Brian and told him I thought he would enjoy it. He actually not only read the book but read it in one sitting. He  stayed up all night reading it. I was shocked.

I’m on Goodreads and I did only rate it 4 out of 5 stars but  in spite of that I still highly recommend reading it. I personally am looking forward to seeing the movie. Towards the end of the book they mention that the movie was a bit different then the book but over all it gave the same message.

If you look to the left of my blog you can see the latest 3 books that I’ve read and the current one that I’m reading.

Coldness

About 5:30 this morning I hear Brian’s phone ding because he got a new text message.  While sleeping I never hear MY phone which is next to my ear, let alone his phone.
At the same time I feel an incredible coldness on my right leg. I opened my eyes to grab the blanket  to cover up my leg and there is a spirit standing at the foot of my bed right by my right leg.
I covered my leg and blinked a few times thinking maybe I was seeing things.
You know how it is in the dark and your tired things don’t always look as they should. After blinking several times and feeling the increasing coldness on my leg I leaned over Sarah who wanted to sleep with me last night and woke up Brian. He normally wouldn’t of woken up, but he woke right up and I said “do you see that?”I told them what I saw and where. He said no he didn’t see it. At this point it was more of a blob then a body form and when he said he couldn’t see it. I saw an arm and hand form, and it went where the hip would be as if to say “ fool you don’t see me”.  I felt as if the energy was female. I never felt in danger at anytime. I finally said go away I’m sleeping. They did but I have a feeling this won’t be the last time I have an encounter with this one.
Yes, I probably should have interacted with her but I WAS very tired and it was my day to sleep in.  I’m assuming she’ll be back to let me know what she wanted. Though I do feel she was there for Brian and not me.

What In The…….

Have you ever had moments where you just said “What in the hell”? Today I had one of those moments.
I was at the computer and I heard Sarah say “Mommy look” and I could hear Emma giggling in the background. I knew it probably wasn’t going to be good.

What I turned around and saw was insane. I looked at Sarah and said “What in the hell”? She giggled and said Emma dressed me up.

I was an only child so I had no siblings to torture. I suppose it is a right of passage. Jeff did it to Justin, and Justin, did it to Liz and on down the line we went.

I only had my animals to torture I guess. I personally think they loved it when I dressed them up in my doll dresses though. So I’m not gonna count it as torture. It was fun for them. Right? Well it was….they told me so. *nods*

So I bet your wondering what exactly Sarah was dressed up in. Since ya’ll know me so well you know I snapped a pic of it.  So without further ado……

P1010137

Now do you see why I said WTH? *shakes my head* My little 4yr old has boobs, a pregnant belly and looks like a gangsta wanna be. Sighs….. She however thought it was grand fun and enjoyed her little dress up game with Emma.

I guess to much time on a teenagers hand, equals dress up games with your little sister. *shrugs*

Emma’s new Do

Yesterday Liz took Emma out to lunch and to get her hair cut.  I don’t think they’ve ever had a sister day together. Was nice to see the two of them go out and do something for a few hours.

I didn’t think to take before pics so all I have is after pics. So without further ado Emma’s new “do”.

P1010102

The front….it’s such a difference. I’m still not sure if I like it or not.

P1010103

The back…the layers seem kinda choppy but I guess that’s the style.

Toilet Tattoo

wesprinkletinklexlg_1

I just recently became aware of a product called “Toilet Tattoo’s” *giggles* The above picture is an example. I actually it’s kind of a neat idea.

There are all sorts of places that sell them but this place seemed reasonable and I just might buy the above one for my toilet. Clickety “here” to go to the site.

Thyroid Cancer

A record total of 56,460 people will be diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the US in 2012.
It’s the fastest increasing cancer in both men and women, reports the American Cancer Society.

This is a cancer that is very near and dear to me. I’m a thyroid cancer survivor.  When I was diagnosed I was told that if you have to get cancer, this is the best type to get. I was told that it was a walk in the park.  These people have obviously have  not had thyroid cancer.
It’s been a little over 2yrs since I was diagnosed and I’m still not on the right dosage of meds. The surgery to remove my thyroid was brutal and the pictures of my neck after the surgery are to graphic to post on here.  I looked like someone had tried to kill me, I was bruised from my neck down to my chest because the tumor was so large.

After surgery I began the long journey of “prepping” for radiation.  You can’t live without a thyroid and  I wasn’t  on any replacement hormones so that when I had the radiation I would have a better chance of responding.

My body was slowly dying. By the time I went for radiation my hair was falling out in handfuls. I couldn’t keep warm.  I couldn't stay awake and I slept probably 22hrs a day. I was always tired and if I thought my Fibromyalgia and back pain were bad before it was nothing compared to how I felt while under treatment.  I could actually feel myself dying. It’s something I pray to never have to go through again.

You will hear that people don’t have reoccurrences of thyroid cancer or that it can’t hurt you. All are untrue. I joined a online support group shortly after my diagnosis,  run by a doctor from a leading hospital. There is a wealth of information not getting to the public.

There are of course the few cases were the person has an easy surgery, where they handled going “hypo” well and it was a walk in the park for them. Those cases are few and far between.
I had talked to a few thyroid cancer survivors after my diagnosis and they told me it would be ok and it wasn’t that bad. I see now they said that so I wouldn't be scared because after talking to them again after I went through treatment some did admit that it was hell for them as well.

We have to be monitored for the rest of our lives most getting some sort of test to check for a reoccurrence at least once a year.  Our thyroid levels are being monitored. for me it’s been on average every 6 weeks. My body rejects the replacement hormones. There are no other options.

There is a person in my support group who was given 5yrs to live because it had spread. He’s on his second year and the cancer keeps spreading. It’s in his bones, in his lungs, it’s taking over.
Common misconception is that you take out your thyroid and then there is no more to worry about. No thyroid, so of course no more thyroid cancer.  Untrue. There are stray cells going through your body and if you can’t keep your body repressed they can become cancerous again.

Be vigilant with your own health. My tumor was found purely by accident.

Know the signs to discuss with your physician:

  • You feel a lump in your neck, or your doctor may notice a nodule in your neck during a routine checkup. Most of these thyroid nodules are benign (noncancerous).
  • Some people first notice lymph node swellings, fullness in the neck, voice changes, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
For a free self help guide on doing your own thyroid exam please click “here
  • If we don’t look out for ourselves then who will?
